Market Overview

Welcome to Quarter One 2018! It has been a strong start to the year right across the Permanent and Temporary sides of the Moir Group business. It is the strongest first quarter we have had in the ten and a half years we have been operating. Business activity is up 38% compared to the same period last year. Breaking that down a little bit, we have seen more activity at the senior end of the market with a 36% increase in Financial Controller and Finance Manager level roles. Also, there has been a significant increase in Chief Financial Officer/Finance Director roles. Partly Qualified/Newly Qualified roles have remained steady. Looking forward, we see the market remaining strong. The sectors where we have seen the most activity this quarter have been Education, Government, IT/Telecommunications and Fast Moving Consumer Goods.

I also wanted to highlight the importance of getting the right cultural fit when you are looking at what is next in your career. Recently, there have been quite a few high-profile examples, in both business and sporting bodies, where organisations have had significant cultural issues. This reinforces how critical it is to find a culture that you align with.  Also look for a business that has an inspiring leader and/or leadership group that you can be part of.

Upcoming Events

We have a couple of very interesting events coming up on leadership.

  • John Cantor, an adventurer, presenting on “Learning from Grand Failure”
  • Craig Foster, Football Analyst, SBS, speaking about “The Last Great Sporting Frontier” - leadership, culture and team planning.

If you are interested in coming along to one or both, you would be very welcome – please RSVP through our website here.

I hope it is a good year for you and we look forward to partnering with you through the year.

I am always very happy to hear from and speak with anyone directly. I can be contacted on 02 9262 4836 or email stephenmoir@moirgroup.com.au
