2021: Our Year in Review

As the clock ticked over to 2021, many of us hoped that the new year would leave COVID in the dust. Unfortunately, this was not the case. However, the ever-looming uncertainties brought, with it, innovation, inspiration and a new sense of unity and togetherness. With two years of COVID under our belt, we are moving into the new year with more resilience and hope than ever before. In the workplace, this translates to soft skills being brought to the fore; and humble leaders paving the way for the future of work.

Seeking Balance

With the year(s) we have had, there are high levels of exhaustion. Moving forward into the new year, many employees will be seeking flexible workplaces that have the support resources to maintain mental health (and avoid exhaustion). Accountants are currently in high demand in Australia and globally, so many employees will be taking stock of their current workplaces and weighing their options. Ironically, the conversation in the world of finance recruitment will become less about money, and more about where the shoe fits with regards to company values and culture.

Looking Back to Look Forward

This year we hosted over 25 events, and created a range of  blog posts and tools to help you in your career journey. We have pulled together some of your favourites in the list below, as well as bookmarked others to keep in your toolkit as you advance into 2022.

Moir Group Values Flyer

Having a strong alignment of  culture and values with an organisation is a key indicator for long-term success in a new role. You may be looking to work for a company that has great values, but understanding your own values and finding that strong match is also vital. We have created this flyer to help guide you on your job search.

How to develop critical thinking skills in finance and accounting

With the finance and accounting function changing considerably , employers are increasingly looking for problem solvers, rather than number-crunchers. Over recent years, we have seen an increasing demand for people who can analyse and interpret data and think critically. In this blog post, we give you a lay of the land for critical thinking in finance, and how you can apply it in your current or future position.

The importance of being yourself at work

One third of our lifetime is taken up with work, but for many people their time in the office can feel distinctly uncomfortable. The reason for this? Many people feel they are unable to be themselves in the workplace. At Moir Group, we believe that every employee should have the opportunity to present their authentic selves at work. In this blog post, we provide you with tools to help you understand who you are at work, and to thrive in doing so.

Knowing your Worth at Work: 2021/22 Salary Guide

Understanding your place in the evolving job market is more important than ever. Whether you are looking to negotiate a pay increase in your current salary or the salary for a brand new position, this guide will provide you with the latest Australian salary trends to get you on the right track.

Advancing into 2022 with Resilience and Hope

With over 70 attendees, this event, hosted by corporate resilience leaders Heidi Dening & Graeme Cowan, was not one to be missed. Both presenters provided a plethora of tips and tools that will allow you to step into 2022 with resilience and hope, with everything from meditation to team building strategies. If you have been feeling overwhelmed, lost, or lacking in your mental clarity, these event highlights are for you.

Hello, 2022

As 2021 comes to a close, there are many key themes that will carry us through into 2022. As a candidate, improving your critical thinking and soft skills will prove to be more than helpful in your job search. These soft skills also translate into effective leadership and a strong company culture and values, which will be a key driver of successful businesses in the future. Finally, moving into 2022 with the same resilience and hope that we have built over the past two years will allow us to incorporate more healthy habits into our lives, bringing our own personal mental health to the forefront of everything that we do. And with that, comes valuing ourselves, and understanding what that value translates to when it comes to your salary and your professional development as you advance in your career.
